Earthquakes in any given place are best modeled by moving average processes. If an earthquake occurs, the geological tension dissipates, and an earthquake is less common the next year. The number of world quakes is hard to model, since the causative factors may differ by continent. This candidate used Excel and fit autoregressive processes up to lag 10. Candidates who have SAS or know R may try moving average processes and mixed processes as well.
