I am guessing if the points lie above the comparison line, it is more extreme, otherwise it would be less extreme. Am I correct? Text book Page 37 Figure 3.9 defines heavy tail, I am guessing this is also symmetric thick tail? then should the symmetric thin tail be opposite of what is draw in figure 3.9????


[NEAS: Above the line is skewed right (positive); below the line is skewed left (negative); S-shaped (with right above and left below the line) is symmetric thick tailed; S-shaped (with right below and left above the line) is symmetric thnk tailed.]

2 questions

1, for the HW, the figure 3.6 on page 37 is T-dis with 2 degree of freedom, not 3 degree of freedom. Is this a typo?

2, for the chi square dis, the points at the lower tail are bound by 0, the points at upper tail are not bound. There extreme points at upper tail are more than the points at lower tail. The upper tail is thick tailed, but not symmetric. Am I right?
