RA sproj hormones and gender
Hormones and gender are a fascinating topic. Actuaries rate male vs female policyholders differently in many lines of business. Many scientists now believe the differences reflect hormonal levels, not gender. One wonders: “Do low testosterone males have personal auto claim frequencies more like female drivers, and do high testosterone female have claim frequencies more like male drivers?” We don’t have data on personal auto claim frequencies or life insurance mortality by testosterone level, but many animal studies now examine hormonal levels.
As you do the student projects, see if you can replicate the graphics in Fox’s textbook. Graphs are excellent for presenting regression results. John Fox made all his graphics in R, and all his data sets are publicly available in R. If you use R, you have thousands of data sets for regression and time series analysis, as well as all of R’s graphic capabilities. R is not required for the on-line courses, but it is a great help for student projects.
