Birth rates are hard to model since they depend on the social composition of the country. Western societies have low birth rates; countries with high immigration from Latin American, African, or Middle Eastern countries have high overall birth rates. This candidate correctly segments the time series for pre- vs post- WWII, though data by social composition of the population is harder to obtain.
