The maximum weekly rate for workers’ compensation indemnity benefits reflects primarily wage inflation. The student project shows how ARIMA modeling can be used for actuarial estimates of loss cost trends and other inflation series. Actuaries have traditionally used plain exponential trends, which do not adjust for seasonality and serial correlation. ARIMA processes can improve on traditional actuarial studies.
